The Institute has been designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a designated “Medical Facility Planning and Medical Service Provider” (Department of International Health and Collaboration), “Sanitation and Water Supplier to the Region” (Department of Environmental Health), “Analysis and Research of Cigarette Smoke” (Department of Environmental Health), and a “WHO Reference Library” (Center for Public Health Informatics). In addition, with regards to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Institute acts as one of the key institutions for chemical pollution and monitoring of air and water quality. In addition, the Institute sends personnel overseas as expert committee members and technical advisors in various fields.　Meanwhile, the Institute actively conducts collaborative research in the area of scientific technologies with the U.S., Germany, South Korea, China, and the Philippines based on inter-governmental agreements. The results of these research projects have not only been present domestically, but also at many international conferences to much acclaim.
